Lesser Whistling Ducks (Dendrocygna javanica) are called whistling ducks because of their call. Lesser Whistling Ducks eat mostly water plants, nibbling on their seeds and shoots. Insects and aquatic invertebrates are also consumed. It is a medium sized duck with dark brown cap on pale buffy head and neck. It prefers a nest site near freshwater with dense vegetation. Sometimes they nest in trees. It lays 10 to 12 creamy white eggs.

This bird is found in small flocks in the wetlands of Haryana, and other parts of India.
