Shree Nagesh Maharoudra Temple




Shree Nagesh Maharudra Temple, situated in Bandora, is about 4 km to the east of Ponda. It is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Nageshi Maharoudra. Laxmi Narayan and Ganapati are the other deities. The temple, facing towards west, is considered to be Swayambhu. In front of the temple, there is a beautiful tank with a Nandi bull in black granite standing tall at its entrance. The palace of the Sunda King exists in the neighborhood. The mandapam has a gallery on both sides that contains wood carvings depict the stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata on one side and wooden images of Ashta Dikpalakas and Gandharvas on the other. A five-storied deepstambha is also situated in the temple premises. Shibika/palakees of Shri Nagesh are held in the temple on every Monday. Annual Jatra and Shivratri is celebrated grandly. The temple is situated on Farmagudi-Kavalem-Ponda road at about 1 km from Farmagudi.
