Saligao

The village of Saligao in Bardez taluk is on the way to Panaji from Calangute. It got its name from the word ‘Sal’, since it was once covered with Sal trees. Saligao is 7 km southwest of Mapusa.

Sheltered in the shades of coconut groves, the hamlet features well preserved Old Portuguese villas. The lush green paddy fields enhance the beauty of the place. The village has a beautiful parish church of Mae de Deus, influenced by Gothic style. Saligao is bounded by other villages in Bardez such as Parra, Guirim, Sangolda, Pilerne, Candolim, Calangute and Nagoa.

Calangute Beach and Candolim Beach are west of Saligao.
