Iron Pillar

Iron Pillar is a seven meter tall pillar situated in the courtyard of the Quwwat-ul-Islam Masjid, in Mehrauli, Delhi. The pillar is over 2000 years old and is built out of pure iron. The most noteworthy feature of this ancient craftsmanship is that it has stayed rust-free, till these years.

An inscription in Sanskrit states that it was initially erected outside a Vishnu Temple, possibly in Bihar. It was raised in memory of the Gupta King Chandragupta Vikramaditya, who ruled from 375 to 413. The pillar was brought to Delhi by the Tomar King Anangpal around the 11th century.

The pillar stands next to the world-famous Qutab Minar.
