Fort of Moti Daman is a magnificent structure which dates back to 1559, situated in Daman District, Daman and Diu. It is a massive fort of about 30,000 sq m with ten bastions and two gateways. The fort is well protected by a moat on the land side and also connects the river to the sea.
The fort is polygonal in shape and there are projections at regular intervals of about 500 ft. At many places, the terraces near the top of the wall are linked with the inner ground surface by open flight of steps. Barracks, setup for defense purpose, line the inner walls.
An inscription found on the southern (land) gate states the year of construction of this gate and the bastions adjacent to it as 1581, while the inscription on the northern (sea) gate gives the date of construction of the Fort wall as 1593.
Se Cathedral Church situated in the fort is worth visiting. The recently developed Hilsa Aquarium housed in the fort is another point of attraction.
