Bilaspur District




The district of Bilaspur is located on the eastern part of Chhattisgarh, and is surrounded by Koriya District in the north, Shahdol District of Madhya Pradesh in the south, Raipur District in the east and Korba and Janjgir-Champa districts in the west. The name 'Bilaspur' originated from the fisher-woman named 'Bilasa'.

Bilaspur, covering an area of 8,569 sq km, has a population of around 2 million. The average rainfall is 1,220 mm. The Agaar, Maniyaar and Arpa are the major rivers. Bilaspur is not only famous in Chhattisgarh, but also in India due to its unique characteristics such as rice quality, Kosa industry and its cultural background. Some of the historical places are Ratanpur, Malhar, Talagram, Kuthaghat, Belpan and Kabir.
