Ganga Maiya Temple

Located at Jhalmala Panchayat, four kilometer east of Balod, on Durg-Balod Main Road is this highly revered shrine dedicated to Goddess Ganga. It is believed that a fisherman found the idol entangled in his net while fishing. Even though he threw it back into the water, it again came into his net. He again threw it back into the river. That night, the Goddess appeared in his dream and asked him to take out the idol from the river and install it in a shrine. Next day, the fisherman took out the idol and installed it in a mud hut. Later, this mud hut gave way to a small temple. Today, this temple is an important pilgrimage and tourist destination.
