Raigarh District




Situated on the eastern border of Chhattisgarh, Raigarh District covers an area of around 6,836 sq km. The main rivers are the Kelo, Mand, and Mahanadi. Raigarh is well known for Dhokra Casting, an art of producing metalware by the process of hot wax casting. Two types of silk, Tasar and Malburry are produced here. The villagers run units for producing kosa sarees and dress materials of export quality.

A major music concert takes place in the Raigarh Palace once in a year. All famous classical singers across the country participate in the concert. The Gomarda reserve forest, 60 km from the district headquarters, Raigarh, is a natural home for many rare wild animals such as tigers and bears. The major places of tourist attractions are the Kamla Nehru Park, Indira Vihar Park, Shri Shyam Mandir, Banjari Mandir and Chandrahasini Devi Temple.
