Hog Deer



Hog Deer (Axis porcinus) is a small Asian deer, which lives in short grasslands.

It has a short wedge-shaped face and small legs. The coat is ochre-brown in colour. The young of the species are spotted with white freckles. A darker band can be seen running down the spine. It has a life expectancy of 20 to 30 years.

The animal can be seen in the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary, West Bengal.
