Hajipur




Hajipur, the administrative headquarters of Vaishali District, is situated on the banks of the Ganges River. It is enroute to Nalanda from Vaishali. Vaishali is 35 km away.

Formerly known as Ukkacala, Hajipur is a place of religious significance, as a portion of Ananda's (the personal attendant of Buddha) ashes was enshrined here. Besides, Hajipur was one of the prominent Mughal territories during the reign of Akbar (from 1556-1605).

Hajipur is famous for its banana plantations, Malbhog variety of bananas being popular.

The nearby towns and cities are Sonepur (4 km) to the west, Sarai to the north and Bankipur and Gulzarbagh to the south.

The nearest airport is Patna Airport, 15 km away. Hajipur Junction Railway Station, managed by the East Central Railways, has connections to the major cities in Bihar.
