Sonepur




Sonepur, 25 km from Patna in Bihar, holds Sonepur mela, the largest cattle fair in Asia. It is an annual event held in November-December when people from all over the country gather to trade in domestic animals.

Sonepur, mentioned in ancient travel records as on major political, religious and trade routes highlight the historical importance of the region. Vaishali, sacred to Buddhists and Jains, is around 20 km from here. Sonepur also has a famous temple, Hariharnath Temple. Seeking god's blessings after bathing at the confluence of the Ganges and Gandak rivers is considered very auspicious.
