Grand Chord Railway Line




The railway line called Grand Chord Line (of the Eastern Railways) was opened in December, 1906. It links two major destinations of the Indian Railways - Howrah and Delhi. The key figure behind the construction of the railway line was Lord Minto, the Governor General and Viceroy of India. By the construction of this railway track, the distance between Kolkata and Mumbai was reduced by 80 km.
