Araria District




Araria is one of the districts in Bihar with an area of 2,830 sq km. The population is 1.6 million. Araria is sub-divided into nine blocks namely Araria, Raniganj, Bharganwan, Kursakata, Sikti, Narpatganj, Forbesganj, Palasi and Jokihat. Agriculture and industry form the main source of economy. Paddy, maize and jute are some of the important crops. Industry is mainly centered on jute mills. The Kosi, Suwara and Kali are the major rivers.

Araria district is known as a natural habitat of Gangetic dolphins.
