Barun, a taluk headquarters and an upcoming industrial town, is in Aurangabad District of Bihar. Located 17 km north-west of Aurangabad, Barun is connected with Aurangabad by National Highway 2.
The Son River, one of the main tributaries of the Ganges, flows close to Barun.
Son Nagar (4 km north), Akorha (12 km south) and
Bagha (6 km south) are some of the prominent towns nearby. Tourist destinations outside the town include Dehri on Sone and Rohtasgarh Fort at Sasaram.
Nearest airport is at Gaya, around 80 km east. Son Nagar Railway Station serves this town.
