Sibsagar Tank

Sibsagar Tank is an outstanding landmark in the historic city of Sibsagar. It is a large artificial lake, situated in the heart of the town, built two centuries ago by Queen Madambikaand.

The water level in the tank is raised slightly above ground level. It covers an area of 120 acres and is fed by natural springs. The tank is surrounded by deep ditches and earthen moats. During winter the area is haven to Siberian migratory ducks. Three famous temples, the Shivadol, Vishnudol and Devidol, are situated on these banks.

The nearest airport is 55 km away, at Jorhat. Simaluguri, the nearest railhead, is 16 km from here.
