Siami Festival

A harvest festival, Siami is celebrated by the Zemi Nagas - a tribal community in North Cachar Hills District of Assam. This three day long festival is generally organized by the boys and girls of Morungs.

On the first day of the festival, the people brew rice beer in large quantity and drink it in the cups made from plantain leaves. Special dishes are prepared with the meats of hunted animals and birds. Apart from this, girls give presents of self-woven cloths to the boys. Dancing and singing throughout day and night are the major accompaniments of this festival.

The most educative aspect of this festival is the competition between boys and girls to recapitulate the names of plants, trees, flowers, creepers, orchids and medicinal plants.
