Patbaushi Satra

Patbaushi Satra is one of the famous monasteries of Vaishnava sects, located about 2 km north of Barpeta, in Assam. It is believed that the Satrapy culture, art forms and literature were spread from here.

Shrimanta Sankardeva, the father of Assamese culture, stayed here for 18 years. The satra preserves all the scripts composed by Sankardeva, which include 240 Bargeets, Shastra (literary religio-cultural text) and Ankiya nat (Dramas).

In order to propagate Vaishnava faith, Shri Damodardeva and Shri Harideva also resided at this satra.

Close to this satra is the Damodar Deva Satra. Barpeta Road Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
