Mising Tribe

The Mising is a tribal community of Assam and is the second largest tribe in Assam. They originally migrated from Arunachal Pradesh. They can adjust themselves to any environment and this distinguishes them from other local tribes. Their main habitat is on the banks of the Brahmaputra River. The main language of the Mising is a mixture of Bhutanese and Tibetan languages. They are famous for their handloom works, especially shawls and blankets. They mainly depend on fisheries and deep water rice cultivation for their livelihood. The main festival of the Mising is Ali-Ai-Ligang, which is the most colorful festival, celebrated during the spring season.
