Ledo is a picturesque town, situated at a distance of 6 km from Margarita, in
Tinsukia District of
Assam. This place is renowned for the 430 km, Indo-Burma Highway constructed by the British General Mr Vinegar Joe Stillwell. This road was constructed in 1944 during World War - II.
Named after Mr Vinegar Joe Stillwell as Stillwell Highway, this road connects Ledo with Myitkyinya (in Myanmar). The most important coal mines of Assam are situated in this place.
