Golaghat




Golaghat is the administrative headquarters of Golaghat District, in Assam. It heralds a lot of cultural heritage and is one of the oldest tea towns in Assam. Golaghat is about 260 km north-east of Guwahati.

The name Golaghat is derived from Gola(a place of business) near the river port Ghat of Dhansiri.

Major tourist attraction here is the Nambor Wildlife sanctuary (20 km) and Garampani Wildlife Sanctuary (25 km). The place is also famous for its hot water springs - Garampani.

Nearest airport is at Dimapur. Golaghat Railway Station is a a major railhead in Assam. By road, Golaghat is linked with Jorhat, Nagaon, Kaziranga, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia.
