Hajo




Situated about 32 km north-west of Guwahati, Hajo is a historical village of Kamrup District.

During ancient period, this village was a center of culture and was part of the Koc kingdom. It is believed that Muslims used this place as a camp during their invasions in Assam. There are many ancient temples worth visiting at Hajo.

Hayagriva-Madhava Temple and Kedaresvara Temple are the major attractions at Hajo. Devotees believe that Hayagriva Madhava Temple contains the holy relics of Lord Buddha. There is an ancient mosque popularly known as Pao Mecca Mosque. Sualkuchi, famous for silk industry, is 20 km from here.

Nearest railhead and airport are at Guwahati.
