Dimasa

Dimasa is a tribal community of Assam. The most notable thing about their lifestyle is that their villages and houses are always situated close to water bodies like rivers. Villages, for them, are independent, self-reliant units of settlement in the forest. Every house in the village has a loom to weave the clothes for their own requirements. According to the Dimasa custom, it is compulsory for a girl to weave her own bridal cloths. Folk dances are the main entertainment for women and wrestling, for men. They grow fruits like banana, papaya and pineapple in their backyard. Pigs and poultry are used for meat; buffaloes are reared only as an item to be sold.
