The headquarters of Bongaigaon District in Assam, Bongaigaon is situated around 120 km west of Nalbari.

The prime attraction of the town is the Bageswari temple, which is one of the oldest in Assam. In the heart of the town, there is a famous market named Birjhora Bazar.

Nearby attractions are Kalimandir near Swahid Bedi, Buri Aie of Bhakaribhita, Moharani temple of Khagarpur, Kalikarpat of Kakoijana Hill range, Jogodhatri of Sidalsati, and Cave Temple (Jogighopa).

The nearby airport is at Borjhar, 18 km east of Guwahati. Bongaigaon Railway Station is on the Kokrajhar-Nalbari line. National Highway 31 passes through Bongaigaon.
