Ramappa Temple



Ramappa Temple lies in Palampet, which is about 77 km from Warangal. Dating back to 1213, Ramappa Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a great contribution of the Kakatiya kings of Warangal and reflects the South Indian style of temple architecture.

Ramappa Temple exists on a 6 ft high star-shaped platform. The sanctum, which has a sikhara at its top, has a lingam. Besides, numerous sub-shrines are found within the temple. A ruined Nandi mandapam welcomes the visitors at the main entrance. It has an idol of Nandi, which is of 9 ft high. The temple is adorned by beautiful carvings, which depict the themes from Ramayana and Mahabharata. Ramappa Lake adjoins this temple. Mahashivratri is celebrated here for three days.

The nearest airport is at Hyderabad, which is about 150 km from Warangal. Warangal is a major railway junction on the Hyderabad- Kazipet-Vijayawada rail route.
