Deepasthambha

Deepasthambha is a multi-tiered pillar made of stone or metal, bearing a number of small lamps in each of the tiers. The deepasthambha is usually positioned in front of the main door of the temples. Usually the lamps are lit on all festive occasions, but in some of the very famous temples, these are lit daily. A fully lit deepasthambha is a wonderful sight to behold.
