Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary




Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 12 km from Paloncha in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh. Spread over an area of about 635 sq km, the sanctuary lies on the right bank of the Godavari River and forms a part of the Dandakaranya forests. The sanctuary is covered by dry deciduous forests, with trees like teak and bamboo. The beautiful Kinnerasani reservoir is also located within the sanctuary.

Kinnerasani Wildlife Sanctuary is home to cheetal, black bucks, chinkaras, chousinghas, sambhars, wild boars, gaurs, wild dog, hyena, jackals, sloth bear, panthers and tigers. Various birds such as peafowl, jungle fowl, quails, partridges, doves, ducks, teals, spoonbills, nuktas and open bill stork and reptiles such as python, cobra, krait, and vipers are also seen.

Best time to visit is from June to October. Forest rest house is available for accommodation at Paloncha and Kothagudem.

The nearest railway station is at Bhadrachalam, which is about 25 km from Kinnerasani.
