Papikonda Wildlife Sanctuary




Papikonda Wildlife Sanctuary extends over the three districts of Andhra Pradesh, namely, Khammam, East Godavari and West Godavari. It lies about 50 km from Rajahmundry, covering over 591 sq km. The sanctuary dwells on the left and right banks of the Godavari River and is stuffed with dry deciduous teak forest. It is the habitat for tigers, gaurs, panther, spotted deer, four horned antelope, sambhar, hyena, jackals, sloth bear and muggers. Different species of resident and migratory birds are spotted along the Godavari River and its tributaries.

October to May is the best season to visit and the forest rest houses at Rajahmundry provides accommodation.

The airport and railway station at Rajahmundry offer easy accessibility to the sanctuary.
