Devi Puruhutika Temple




Devi Puruhutika Temple is a famous Shaktipitha located at Pithapuram in East Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh. This small sized shrine was built during the 10th century. Pithapuram is about is 20 km north of Kakinada.

Though this is forming an integral pat of the Kukkuteswara Swamy Temple, the goddess is installed in a separate, independent shrine. The idol facing north is in the standing posture and made of granite stones, about four feet in height. The deity is adorned with glittering gold jewels and rustling silks.

The main puja offered with devotional zeal is Agamic Puja. The periodical festivals are held with color and pageantry lure huge crowds.

The shrines dedicated to Lord Ram, Kumaraswamy, Kunti Madhava Swamy, Venkateshwara and Venugopala Swamy are located close to this temple.

Pithapuram Railway Station on the Chennai-Kolkata rail route is the nearest railhead. By road, Pithapuram is connected with Peddapuram, Rajahmundry, Samalkot, Kakinada and Uppada Beach.
