Warangal District




Warangal is located in northern Andhra Pradesh. In the 12th century, Warangal was the ancient capital of the Kakatiyas, an Andhra dynasty that flourished. Earlier, this place was known as Orugallu. The district has an area of 12846 sq km.

Warangal is famous for its beautiful lakes, temples and wildlife. The tourist spots are Warangal Fort, Khush Mahal, Bhadrakali Temple (the thousand pillared temple with its star shaped shrines dedicated to Shiva, Vishnu and Surya), the famous Ramappa temple, Annakonda Pillar, Laknavaram Lake, Yadagirigutta, Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary, and Pakhal Wildlife Sanctuary. It is rich in antiques and relics.

The best season to make a visit is from September to February. Carpets, blankets, and silk products are the various items that are produced. Pembarthi Metal Crafts, Banjara Fabrics, Warangal Rumals, Warangal Carpets and Nakashow Paintings are the important handicrafts.

Warangal lies along the Chennai- Kazipet- Delhi rail route. The nearest airport is at Hyderabad at a distance of 157 km. State bus services operate from Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Karimnagar, and Khammam.
