Mathuri Dance




Mathuri is a folk dance of Adilabad District. It is enacted during Gokul Ashtami. Both men and women perform this dance either separately or together. Women form the inner circle and men form the outer semi-circle. The dance is accompanied by devotional and secular songs with beats of small sticks of men and applause of women. The male dancers hold a handkerchief and a stick in their hands. As compared to male dance, women dance is very slow in tempo.
