Hyderabad District



Hyderabad, which was founded in the late 16th century by Qutab Shahis, is the fifth largest metropolis of India and the state capital of Andhra Pradesh. The beautiful monuments and mosques, medieval Indian, Saracen, Mughal and colonial architecture make this district very attractive.

Hyderabad is situated at the top of the Deccan Plateau, almost 2000 ft above sea level, and sprawls over an area of 259 sq km. The population is close to four million. The temperature varies from 40°C to 20°C during summer and 22°C to 13.8°C during winter. The best time to visit is June-February. The monsoon season normally occurs from June to December and the district receives rainfall of about 89 cm.

The prominent hill ranges are Banjara, Jubilee, Golconda, Nawabat Pahad, Tirumalagiri and Moula Ali. The Hussain Sagar Lake separates the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The predominant industries include cotton and silk textiles, cigarettes, paper, pottery, glassware and more recently information technology and call centers. Hyderabad is a center for handicrafts.

Hyderabad District is known for its dances, folk songs and religious celebrations. Popular tourist spots include the Golconda Fort, Salarjung Museum and Charminar.

The railway stations are at Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Hyderabad airport is 16 km from Hyderabad city.
