Yoga Tattwa Upanishad is one of the minor
Upanishads, among the 108 Upanishads in Indian Philosophy. It belongs to the Krishna Yajur Veda. It is written as a dialogue between
Lord Brahma and
Lord Vishnu.
Brahma asks Vishnu questions on the truth about yoga, and on the eight steps in Yoga.
The Yoga Tattwa Upanishad lists sloth among other obstacles in the path of a yogi, including grief, anger, greed, boastfulness, and bad company. Unless these obstacles are overcome, the text warns, a person may lead a life of despair. One who desires liberation should practise both Yoga and Jnana. The Upanishad explains in detail
Mantra Yoga, Laya Yoga,
Hatha Yoga and Raja Yoga and the four states common to all these, namely Arambha, Ghata, Parichaya and Nishpatti.
Yoga Tattwa Upanishad deals with all the aspects of Yoga. Timings and procedures for the different processes in Yoga, like
Dharana and Pranayama, are mentioned. Yoga Tattwa Upanishad says that by the practice of Yoga a person becomes, one with God and, as clear as a crystal (meaning, without sins).
