Eighty sixth among the 108
Upanishads, the Yoga Kundalini Upanishad forms part of the
Krishna Yajurveda. It deals with
Hatha Yoga,
Kundalini Yoga, and Lambika Yoga and concludes with an account of the non-qualified
Brahman.
The Yoga Kundalini Upanishad is a very important work on Kundalini Yoga. There is an analysis of the nature of Chitta. The causes for the existence of Chitta are Samskaras, Vasanas and Prana. The Prana can be controlled if one's vasanas are controlled. The Yoga Kundalini Upanishad gives different methods- Mitahara, Asana and Shakti-Chalana - for the control of Prana. This Upanishad also mentions the problems a Yogic student usually encounters and provides solutions to these problems. The three Bandhas to be practised by the student of yoga - the
Mula Bandha, the
Uddiyana Bandha and the
Jalandhara Bandha are also mentioned in detail in this text.
