Ylang Ylang (Cananga Odorata) is a tropical evergreen tree (10 m height) distributed throughout India. It is a native of Indonesia and the Philippines.
The flowers seen in clusters are fragrant and drooping. Ylang Ylang is reported to be an antispasmodic and used as a medicine for sexual disabilities and frigidity. Traditionally, it is very useful to balance heart function. On steam distillation, the flowers yield aromatic oil called 'Cananga oil'. The oil is a principle ingredient in soaps.
