Yellow-billed Magpie




Yellow-billed Magpie (Pica nuttalli) is a large and beautiful bird closely resembling to the Black-billed Magpie.

It has a black head and chest, white shoulders and belly, and shining blue wings. Its long black tail is iridescent. The yellow beak is its distinguishing characteristic. Bare skin behind eyes is also yellow, though not always clearly visible. Males are slightly larger than females.

The bird feeds on animal matter, including insects, bird eggs, nestling and carrion. Acorns, seeds, grass and berries are also consumed.

Yellow-billed Magpie can be seen in the Buxa National Park, West Bengal.
