Yellow Orange Tip Butterfly

Yellow Orange Tip (Ixias pyrene) is a common butterfly found in the scrub jungles at the foot of hills. The wingspan is about 5 to 7 cm and color is same as the leaf of Malabar nut. The fore wing has a yellowish orange band (in male) or white band (in female). The butterfly flies almost in a straight path. After a long flight, it relaxes on the leaves of bushes and trees. It often visits the place where prickly pear exists in large quantities. It likes the flowers of lantana, ber, batchelor's button, Aztec marigold, pomegranate, chrysanthemum, horse-purslane and Indian abutilon.
