The plant is characterized by large, swollen, dark brown roots, which grow first vertically and then horizontally. Wild Quinine has antiperiodic, emmenagogue, lithontriptic properties. It is given in respiratory infection, gastrointestinal infection and venereal disease and is used as poultice.
