White-rumped Shama (Copsychus Malabaricus) is a dark and glossy bird of about 27 cm in length, commonly found in South East Asia. The head, throat, upper chest, back and wings are glossy black and outer tail feathers are white. Its underparts are dark orange-rufous. The legs and feet are flesh colored. The female is dull earthy brown with a slightly smaller tail.
The bird prefers to live in thick secondary jungles in the lowlands. It is one of the world's finest song-birds with a loud melodious sound. Diet consists of ants, insects, worms, maggots, caterpillars and grasshoppers.
White-rumped Shama can be seen in the Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary, Karnataka.
