White yam (Dioscorea rotundata) is a tuber species of edible yam. It can tolerate extremely dry conditions. The tuber contains dry matter, starch and protein. White yam is also grown as an intercrop in mature coconut garden. Improved varieties are sree subhra, sree priya, and sree dhanya.
