White Leadwort

Chitraka



White Leadwort is a perennial, sub-scandent shrub, which grows in peninsular India. It is also cultivated as an ornamental plant.

Plumbagin, free glucose and fructose, and the enzymes protease and invertase are isolated from the root bark. It exhibits antiseptic, stimulant, anti-inflammatory, and diuretic properties, which is useful in rheumatism.
