Wesak is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Buddhists. It marks the birth of
Buddha’s birth, the founder of
Buddhism. Some sects of the religion mark his birth and death on this day. The festival is observed on the full moon day of May.
Wesak festival is considered to be extremely religious, owing to which the devotees make it a point to follow the religious guidelines as strictly as they can. Kindness and generosity, two major principles in Buddhism, is practiced on this day. Hence, some Buddhists open temporary stalls offering free food and drink to the passerby. Some people even donate blood to blood-banks. Apart from these acts of generosity and kindness, the Buddhists also indulge in festivities and celebration.
