Vishnu Chalisa is a collection of verses dedicated to
Lord Vishnu, the preserver of the Universe. The word ‘chalisa’ means ‘forty,’ which refers to the number of verses in this collection. Sundardasa, a revered person known for his devotion towards the lord, is credited with composing these verses.
A mention of Vishnu Chalisa is found in the Vedas. It is even said that Goddess Saraswati, Sage Vyasa and Sage Narada used to recite these verses. Daily recital of these verses is recommended for seeking happiness and prosperity. Further more it adds to the intelligence of the person. Vishnu Chalisa is seen as a path for attaining the four ultimate goals in life, which are ‘Dharma’, ‘Artha’, ‘Kama’ and ‘Moksha’.
