Vijoynagar, 4,200 m above the sea level, is a sleepy town in Changlang District. Surrounded by Burma on three sides, Vijoynagar is 135 km from Changlang and 156 km south-east of Miao. Jhoom cultivation is the main occupation. Lisu, Tangsa, Assamese, Hindi and English are the languages spoken here.
Vijoynagar is one of the Buddhist seats in Arunachal Pradesh. During the 17th century, the Kham-ti and Singpho communities emigrated from Burma and settled in Vijoynagar. They set up Buddhist religious centers and constructed several Buddha stupas and viharas. Lisu tribe, believed to be the descendants of the army of the Greek hero Alexander, inhabits in the outskirts of Vijoynagar.
To visit here, Indian tourists require an Inner Line Permit and foreigners require Restricted Area Permit (RAP) issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. October to April is the best time to visit here.
Dibrugarh Airport is the nearest airport and Tinsukia Railway Station, 40 km away, is the nearest railhead.
