Vidarbha Cuisine

Besides the coastal cuisine, Maharashtra is popular for its Vidarbha Cuisine prepared by the people of the Vidarbha region. The interior of Maharashtra, Vidarbha region comprises ten districts namely Akola, Buldhana, Bhandara, Nagpur, Yavatmal, Washim, Wardha, Parbhani and Chandrapur. The people of these districts prepare dishes more spicy and exotic than that of the coastal and southern regions. They mainly use besan, chickpea flour and ground peanuts. The main difference is that they add powdered coconut in their dishes instead of fresh coconut.
