Vatapi Vinayagar Temple

Vatapi Vinayagar Temple is located at Tiruchenkaatankudi, also known as Ganapatheeswaram, near Nannilam in Thanjavur District. The temple deity is Vinayagar (Lord Ganesh). The temple got its name as the idol was brought from Badami, capital of Vatapi. Legend has it that after killing the demon, Ganesh worshipped Lord Shiva here. The main festival is held in the Tamil month of Margazhi (mid December-mid January). Nearest airport is at Tiruchirapalli. The temple can be reached from Thanjavur by State government buses.
