Vasupujya

Vasupujya is the twelfth Tirthankar among the 24 Jain Tirthankars. He was born to Vasupujya, the king of Champa, and Jaya Devi at Champapuri. Belief is that when the queen was pregnant, the king of gods (Lord Indra) came to convey his veneration to the future Tirthankar and his mother. As Lord Indra is also known as Vasu, the new born was named Vasupujya (venerated by Vasu).

In the prime of this youth, Vasupujya renounced the worldly life and became a Shraman on the 15th day of the dark half of the month of Phalgun. Vasupujya became an omniscient under a Patal tree within one month.

Bhagavan Vasupujya attained Nirvana at Champapuri on the fourteenth day of the bright half of the month of Ashadh. He had around 66 followers. Buffalo is the emblem of Lord Vasupujya.
