Valum Parichayum




Valum Parichayum (sword and shield) are lethal metal weapons used in the southern system of Kalaripayattu in Kerala. It is the most famous of all kalari weapons. The ‘valu’ (sword) is used for offence whereas the ‘paricha’ (round shield) is used for defense. Valpayattu, as it is commonly known, is the name of the fight with this sword and shield. The most important and advanced fighting with Valum Parichayum is called Puliyankam.
