Vakya Vritti

Vakya Vritti is an ancient text written by Adi Shankaracharya. It is an Advaitic treatise and has 53 verses. It deals with question of the total identification of the individual-Self with the Universal-Self. It is an exhaustive exposition of ‘Tat Twam Asi,’ (That Thou Art), the most famous phrase in Hindu Religion.

Shankaracharya says in Vakya Vritti that each individual can experience the non-existence of the individual self – the experience of ‘Tat Twam Asi.’ Until one gets the experience, one should patiently listen to spiritual teachers or read Holy Scriptures.
