Vakya Vritti is an ancient text written by
Adi Shankaracharya. It is an Advaitic treatise and has 53 verses. It deals with question of the total identification of the individual-Self with the Universal-Self. It is an exhaustive exposition of ‘Tat Twam Asi,’ (That Thou Art), the most famous phrase in Hindu Religion.
Shankaracharya says in Vakya Vritti that each individual can experience the non-existence of the individual self – the experience of ‘Tat Twam Asi.’ Until one gets the experience, one should patiently listen to spiritual teachers or read Holy Scriptures.
