Vagbhatta is renowned in the field of
Ayurveda as the author of Ashtanga Hridaya Samhita and Ashtanga Sangraha. He edited the
Charaka Samhita,
Sushruta Samhita and Sharangdhar Samhita to prepare the two books, which is the most important database of Ayurvedic medicine at present. He also introduced various new herbs and surgical techniques in his compositions.
Vagbhatta was born to Simhagupta in the erstwhile Sindhu. Vagbhatta, Atreya and Sushruta are considered as the Vriddha Trayi or the three medical authorities.
