Uchappattu

Uchappattu is a song in saluation to Ganapati or Saraswati. It is sung to the accompaniment of Veekkan Chenda in temples during festivals. Uchappattu is also called Ganapati Vandanam. Aval (flattened rice), malar (puffed rice), sarkara (jaggery) and ashtamangalyam are placed in front of a lighted lamp to be offered to Ganapati and Saraswati. This ritual is usually conducted at noon time for about an hour. It is mostly associated with the ritual Kalamezhuthum Paattum.
